Enjoy The Luxury Of A Family Safari To Africa

Oct 20th, 2011 Nicola Russell

A luxury family safari in Africa has a great deal to offer the whole family but it especially helps nurture in children a deep love and appreciation of nature.

A family safari also develops in your children an inquisitive and enquiring mind. Enjoy what will be one of your most memorable holidays and venture on a family safari in Africa. A family safari in Africa is likely to be one of the best holidays you'll take as everyone can let their hair down and breathe real nature.

We will suggest family safari lodges and camps in Africa that don't just 'accept' children, but welcome them with open arms. In all honesty we wouldn't suggest that you take a safari anywhere in Africa with a baby or toddler. As we would advise that with very young children you avoid the Malarial regions, but additionally, as you are no doubt aware, children as young as this have very short attention spans and game drives of an hour or two just aren't conducive. If you are wanting to holiday in Africa with children under the age of five we would suggest that you head to Cape Town and the Garden Route which has plenty of attractions to keep young families entertained whilst in Africa. However safaris are perfect for children who are old enough to understand and question what they see, a family holiday to Africa can be an amazing, inspiring and eye-opening experience.

Many of the safari lodges we suggest have specialist family safari guides for children and even special children's activities such as bush treasure hunts, bead-making and bedtime-safaris from African storytellers. Your children can be looked after for an afternoon by well qualified guides and child minders - enabling you to enjoy a little holiday each day also.

Namibia and South Africa's Cape are our top destinations for family holidays. In Namibia you can enjoy private mobile safaris enabling you to travel at your own pace and stop where you like to get out and explore - perfect for a family child friendly safari holiday with energetic children. In addition the Cape has a wonderful selection of activities and parks along the coast for all ages that combines well with a stay of three or four nights in one of the game reserves.

A family safari might be located in Kenya. Kenya is exceptional as a safari location for families. Especially for those with children who are slightly older and with an abundance of energy to expend, we recommend Kenya whole heartedly. Kenya is thought of as the traditional safari location and Kenya's well established infrastructure lends itself well to families travelling.

The first question we are usually asked is what about malaria and the effects of medication or malaria prophylaxis where children are concerned. Fortunately, South Africa has some fabulous malaria free regions perfect for your safari such as the Waterberg, Welgevonden, Madikwe and Pilanesberg, all of which are about 3 to 4 hours drive from Johannesburg. In the Eastern Cape are the Addo and Shamwari game reserves which are also malaria free. So for families with little ones wanting to see Simba in the wild this would be the first choice.

These safari areas combine excellently with a few days in Cape Town, or a drive along the Garden Route, before you head of to a far flung beach for a spot of pampering.
